Inherited houses often come with a lot of memories, but they can also come with difficult decisions. When a property has been sitting vacant for years and needs major repairs, many heirs decide that selling the house as-is is the simplest solution.
Recently, Jon Lester from Home Buyer Mississippi visited a property in Biloxi that had been inherited and left vacant for nearly 20 years. The house still had a lot of vintage charm, including original tile work and old fixtures, but it had clearly been untouched for a long time and needed substantial updates before it could be lived in again.
Situations like this are common across the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Many inherited homes require repairs, updates, or ongoing maintenance that heirs may not want to take on. In other cases, the heirs live out of state or simply want to settle the estate quickly.

Hey, what’s up everybody? It’s John Lester with Home Buyer Mississippi. I am in a house here in Biloxi, Mississippi.
This place has a lot of cool vintage character, including some pink flamingo tile in the bathroom. But it also needs a lot of work. The property hasn’t been touched in a long time and there’s quite a bit that will need to be repaired.
There’s still vintage furniture throughout the house and hardwood floors, but the home clearly needs significant updates. One of my favorite things in the house is an old Vent-A-Hood range hood in the kitchen.
The seller actually inherited the property and it’s been sitting vacant for about 20 years. At this point the family is just ready to move on and sell the house rather than deal with the repairs.
We’re here today looking over the property and working through the numbers to see if it makes sense as a project. There’s definitely a mix of small repairs and some larger updates that will be needed.
The location is great though. Just past the houses nearby you can actually see the Gulf of Mexico, so it’s in a really cool area of Biloxi.
