Selling a Storm-Damaged House As-Is in Gulfport, Mississippi

In this property walkthrough, Jon Lester with Home Buyer Mississippi visits a distressed house in Gulfport on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The property suffered severe roof leaks that eventually caused parts of the roof to collapse, leaving the home in need of major repairs throughout.

The sellers no longer lived at the property and had previously tried listing it on the market without success. Over time, the vacant house continued to deteriorate as small leaks turned into much larger problems. Even with the damage, the home still has the solid structure and character often found in older Gulfport properties built in the 1940s.

In the video, Jon walks through the condition of the house, explains how the situation developed, and discusses how Home Buyer Mississippi evaluates houses in difficult as-is situations across South Mississippi.

What’s up, everybody? It’s Jon Lester again with Home Buyer Mississippi. I’m at another house here in Gulfport. The roof has collapsed in several places, and as you can see, the house was already dated, but when the roof sprang a leak, it got bad fast.

The sellers do not even live here. They tried listing it on the market a few years ago, but it just was not the right time and they could not sell it. They ended up leaving the house as it was and did not check on it often enough. Small leaks eventually turned into major damage.

As you can see, it is going to take quite a bit of work, but it is still a great house. It is a 1940s construction, which is one of my favorite decades for homes. It looks like it was probably renovated in the 1990s with Formica countertops and similar updates.

At this point, it is going to need just about everything, but that is great because it gives us a clean slate to do what we want with it. It has great bones, like a lot of homes from this era do.

This is the back of the house. We are still firming up our numbers, but I think we are going to be able to help out.

Interestingly enough, we actually called the seller because our crews were working on the house next door and finishing that one up. We noticed the distress here, and I already had this property on my radar. As fate would have it, everything worked out the way it did. We reached out, and now they are interested in selling.

We are putting the numbers together now. We love this type of house. We love houses in all conditions anywhere in Mississippi. If you have a property like this in any condition or situation, check us out at HomeBuyerMississippi.com. Fill out the form for a free cash offer, and we will reach out to you and hopefully help you out of your situation as well.

Until then, have a good one. I hope to talk to you soon.
