Selling a Fire-Damaged House As-Is in Gulfport, Mississippi
A homeowner in Gulfport, Mississippi started working on a house after it experienced a small fire, but the project became much larger than expected. The property is gutted, with some newer framing, electrical work, and roofing already completed.
The house has been sitting vacant and still needs significant work. Parts of the newer roof have holes, some flooring may rot because of water drainage, and vegetation has grown through the windows. In this property walkthrough, Jon Lester explains what he found and how Home Buyer Mississippi plans to finish the project. Sellers dealing with similar damage may want to learn more about how to sell a fire-damaged house or sell a house as-is when the repairs have become too much to handle.
You can watch the video to see the property and hear more about the situation, or read the video transcript below.

Jon Lester here with HomeBuyer Mississippi. I am here in a gutted house in Gulfport, Mississippi. The owners were actually trying to fix it up themselves at one point. It had a little fire in it, as you can see.
Some of the framing is newer. There used to be a fireplace that went all the way through to the roof. It has been taken out, and it was reroofed and reframed in some places. Some electrical work was done, but it’s a really big project.
They ran out of time, ran out of money, and ran out of the desire to do it. It’s a lot bigger of a project than a lot of people anticipate, so they gave us a call. It has been sitting vacant for a while. Some of the new roof work has actually developed a couple of holes, which have been caused by some water drainage in the floor, and some of the flooring is going to rot through.
There have been some animals and some people obviously living in it, and you can see some vegetation growing through the windows. They started work, but it still needs quite a bit of TLC to get put back together.
They gave us a call, and I came out to check it out. We had a quick little phone call, and we’re pretty good at telling how things are going to look from the conversation. It was just as described when I got here.
Everything’s looking as expected, so we’re going to be able to move forward and hopefully help them get out of their situation and get us another little project to work on. We will finish picking up where they left off and finish the project.
Then we’ll have a nice house available for someone to live in again here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. We’re always excited to help people out and excited to have another project.
If you have a house like this, really in any condition, but especially if you have one that looks a little bit bigger than your project and you don’t feel like messing with it, give us a shout.
